Without treatment, the infection can spread, causing pain or abscess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be caused by, among other things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deep cavities (tooth decay)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A leaking old filling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A crack or fracture in the tooth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A blow or an accident<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Inflamed pulp does not heal on its own. If nothing is done, the infection can spread to the bone around the root, causing more pain, swelling, and sometimes even an abscess. With a root canal treatment, we thoroughly clean the inside of the tooth so the infection disappears and the tooth can be preserved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"doet-een-wortelkanaalbehandeling-pijn\">Does a root canal treatment hurt?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Most patients are surprised at how <strong>comfortable a root canal treatment actually is<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">We treat <strong>almost always under local anaesthesia<\/strong>; the tooth and surrounding tissues are carefully numbed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We take the time to let the anaesthesia take effect properly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">During the treatment, we can always <strong>pause<\/strong> if you need it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The purpose of the treatment is actually to <strong>relieve your pain<\/strong>, not to cause additional pain.
