First, we assess whether it is really necessary. Removing a wisdom tooth is usually advisable when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">you experience <strong>repeated inflammation<\/strong> or swelling around the same tooth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">there is a <strong>deep cavity<\/strong> that cannot be properly treated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">the wisdom tooth is <strong>pushing against the neighbouring tooth<\/strong> and causing damage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">an <strong>infection around the root tip<\/strong> is visible on the x-ray<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your orthodontist (braces) advises removing the wisdom teeth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Together we discuss the advantages and disadvantages. Daarmee kunnen we de exacte ligging in drie dimensies zien en de behandeling veiliger en voorspelbaarder plannen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"2-verdoving\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Verdoving<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Before we begin, you will receive a local anaesthetic. This makes the procedure itself painless; you may feel pressure or movement, but no sharp pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We always check that the anaesthetic has fully taken effect before we start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"3-operatieve-verwijdering\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Operatieve verwijdering<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>we make a small opening in the gum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>if necessary, we remove a small amount of bone around the tooth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">sometimes the tooth is divided into several pieces to make removal easier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>afterwards, we rinse the area and carefully suture the gum closed <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Thanks to our many years of experience with complex extractions and wisdom teeth, we can safely perform most treatments in our practice. Hechten en gaasje<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the removal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">we usually place a gauze pad that you need to bite on for 30\u201360 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">if necessary, the wound will be sutured (with dissolvable stitches)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">you will receive clear verbal and written aftercare instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"5-herstel-en-nazorg\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Herstel en nazorg<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">After the removal of a wisdom tooth, some pain and swelling are normal.
